Wakehurst Rugby Club Code of Conduct

At Wakehurst Rugby Club, we believe in creating positive and fun experiences through rugby. We encourage everyone to embody these values while participating or spectating.

Player Code of Conduct:

  • Play for the love of the game and the joy of playing with your friends.
  • Always give your best effort and strive to improve.
  • Respect and follow the rules of rugby.
  • Show good sportsmanship; cheer for good play from both your team and your opponents.
  • Treat all players with respect, as you would like to be treated.
  • Stay composed at all times regardless of the situation.
  • Avoid dangerous or unsafe play.
  • It is unacceptable to criticise or abuse officials, coaches, or fellow players, argue with the referee, deliberately foul an opponent, or throw equipment.

Parents Code of Conduct:

  • Do not place undue pressure on your child. Remember, they play for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Encourage your child to respect and follow the rules.
  • Motivate your child to do their best and celebrate their honest efforts more than winning.
  • Promote good sportsmanship by applauding good play from all players.
  • Never ridicule or yell at any child for making a mistake.
  • Let kids be kids and enjoy their game.
  • Respect the referee’s judgment and integrity, and model this behavior for your children.
  • Understand that referees are integral to the game and are often volunteers giving their time. Any form of abuse or harassment towards referees is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
  • Recognize the invaluable contribution of volunteer Coaches, Managers, and Referees who provide the opportunity for your children to play rugby.

Spectator Code of Conduct:

  • Remember that the players are not professional athletes. Allow kids to enjoy their game.
  • Avoid using offensive language or harassing players, coaches, or referees.
  • Applaud good play by all players, including the opposition.
  • Condemn any form of violence.
  • Referees deserve respect and appreciation for their role in the game.
